I have
no doubt that the Rorem Handling Workshop made me a better handler
and therefore intend to make my participation in the Workshop
an annual event.
Oftentimes,
the difference between a blue ribbon and a green at a field
trial is razor thin. This is particularly true in the Open,
where the best dogs and handlers compete. Because so many dogs
are physically gifted and superbly trained, the difference between
winning, placing, and finishing is the ability of a handler
to extract the best performance possible out of his dog. If
you are an Amateur like me, competing in the Open against men
and women who earn their living training and handling dogs,
you know how difficult the task of winning is and are constantly
looking for opportunities to improve your skills as a handler.
The Rorem Workshop provides just such an opportunity.
Many great
competitors are not great teachers. Dave is both. One of the
reasons that I found the Rorem Workshop so worthwhile is that
Dave is able to put his years of competition experience to work
by offering handlers succinct, understandable criticism, praise,
and advice in real time. At the Rorem Workshop, you will have
numerous opportunities to run both your dogs and Dave's dogs
in competition conditions under Dave's watchful eye. Dave will
offer his comments to you and the other handlers both as you
are running and afterwards in the evening as part of group video
review. That combination of repetition, instantaneous review,
and then video review makes for a powerful learning experience.
